I have seen many people ask this question on different forums and I have decided to do justice to the topic with this article. How many swim shorts is enough to go through for a week and what variables do you need to look at before deciding on how many swim shorts to get ready for a week’s use? These and other related interesting questions will be my focus in this post. Let’s get started!

How many swim shorts do I need for a week?

Two to three swimsuits will be enough for one week.

I am sure you are wondering how you are going to survive with just two or three swimsuits per week but the answer is that it is possible. It is even possible to survive with a smaller number of swimsuits.

You can go with just two for a week by ensuring that while one pair is being used, the other is washed and dried immediately. I know of some minimalists who can survive with just one for the whole week.

Three for me is the perfect number of swimsuits you need for a week to take care of unexpected scenarios like what happens if it rains on my swimsuit and I am just with one or what if the elastic part of my swimsuit gets bad just when you are putting it on.

Some people do not mind wearing a used swimsuit provided that it is dry. If you’re one of those who cannot wear a used swimsuit, you may have to do a little bit of laundry after swimming.

One of the advantages of washing your swimsuits after use is that it prolongs the life of the swimsuit by washing off the saltwater and Chlorine as soon as possible.

By the way, it only takes 5 minutes to wash and another half an hour to dry most swimsuits, so you don’t have to worry so much about time.

Do I always need to have different swim shorts?

Yes!

Although it is practically possible as some minimalists do wear one swim short over time, having two or more swimsuits is the best for the following reasons:

  • The lifeSpan of the Swimsuits: Having one swimsuit will drastically reduce the lifespan of the swimsuit especially if you are a regular swimmer. The fact is the more they use something, the faster the rate of degradation. If you want your swim shorts to last long, it is better to have different shorts you use so as to reduce the rate of wear and tear.
  •  You don’t want to be known for one swim short: Having one swim shorts will mean you have only one attire for the pool. You don’t want your swimsuit to become your source of identity especially if you use a public pool. So, get another swim short and save yourself from unnecessary stereotypes.
  •  Your plans can get ruined: Having one swim short means you don’t have a backup if anything happens. What if your shorts get torn when putting them on, what will you do if you wash them and they are stolen, what will you do if they get missing? All these are valid reasons why you should not have one set of swim shorts. Having at least two sets of swim shorts will help you mitigate these risks in the event that some of these eventualities happen.

What to do when I run out of shorts in a week?

There are many options available for you if you run out of shorts during the week.

  • Wash used shorts: You can wash your used shorts if you run out of shorts. Washing them shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes and take just about half an hour to get dry.
  • Buy new shorts: If you have a few shorts and are looking at reducing the frequency at which the shorts run out, you can buy some more shorts to make it help you go through the week without running out of the shorts.

The following are recommended shorts you can go for if you are looking at increasing the number of your swim shorts. Here are some new shorts you can.

How to store swim shorts properly

You may think that storing items as little as swim shorts and other swimming attires will not require an additional effort to store. But, if you’re a regular swimmer, you will know that it is not as easy as it sounds.

For instance, imagine you just took off your swimsuits and threw them into your washing bin, you are likely to get things messed up like bikini straps tangled together, swim trunks in a very bad wrinkled state etc.

Again, swim shorts are always wet and they require careful attention. For instance, lingering moisture in your swimming costumes can lead to mildew and you don’t want to deal with this no matter what time of the year it happens.

Also, Saltwater, Chlorine and lake water can permeate any type of clothes and so you need to do some very deep cleaning to avoid this, else your swim short lifespan will be reduced drastically.

Handling all these issues is not easy and you may be tempted to ignore them.

However, ignoring them will reduce the lifespan of your swimwear and I am sure you don’t want to keep buying this swimwear every now and then. In this section, I will be sharing some tips on how to store swim shorts properly.

  1. Do not Store Swimwear in a Plastic Bag: This is not recommended as airtight containers are the major cause of mildew and mold especially in swimwear.
  2. Do not keep swimwear in a garage or attic: These places have extreme temperatures which are too hard on swimwear materials. What I recommend is having a small space for storing your swimwear in your master closet. This not only protects the swimwear from extreme temperatures but also makes it easy for you to grab them for your next swimming activity.
  3. Keep them in the drawer when not in use for a long time: If you intend to store the swimsuit for a long time, I will recommend keeping them in a high-quality drawer. After washing and drying, place each piece of swimwear in a small mesh bag. Ensure you place a dryer sheet in your drawer to keep your swimwear smelling nice until you are ready to use them again.

Best way to care for your weekly swim shorts.

  1. Rinse your swim shorts after each use.
  2. Hand wash your swim shorts once in a quarter using a gentle soap that will not affect the colour quality of the swim shorts.
  3. Make sure you leave your swim shorts to dry completely to avoid mildew.
  4. Do not dry your swim shorts in a dryer. Using a gentle cycle of your washing machine may be a quick way for people who don’t want to hand wash their swimsuit, but this act is the easiest way to destroy the fabric and make them fade off faster.
  5. Do not scrunch up your swim shorts, doing this will be crushing the fibre of the material and the swimwear fabrics are so delicate that they can easily break and lose their form.
